Avoiding Problems with Drain Tiles

Why do you need a drain tile in your yard?

The use of tile drainage, commonly called drain tile, system started with agriculture. Excess water in the soil harms crops just like lack of water does. While irrigation solves lack of water, tile drainage solves excess water.

Now, drain tile wouldn’t be of use to you unless you’re growing crops on your lawn, right? Well, not necessarily. Draining the soil around your house of excess water has a lot of benefits to the home. When the snowy and rainy days come, your grounds will take in a lot more water than usual. While soil is absorbent, it has its limits. The water can pool in places making your yard messy, but that’s the least of your worries.

When the soil is saturated with water, it becomes heavier. The part around your basement walls will exert greater pressure, which can compromise the foundation of your house. Another way this can go is that your basement walls will get cracked letting in water from the soil. Later on, you get a flooded basement or crawl space.

If you want to avoid the problems mentioned above, you should consider having drain tile systems installed for your yard. The best time is while the snows and rains haven’t arrived yet.
